In a New Light

Five original piano pieces, with the teaching written into the score.

Five pieces that follow a single day, from first light to starlight. I wrote them after moving to Hawai‘i, in an unhurried, contemplative style sometimes called neo-classical or ambient.

They’re accessible to newer pianists and satisfying in their own right: music you’ll want to come back to long after you’ve learned the notes.

More than sheet music

Most sheet music gives you the notes and leaves the rest to you. If you’re learning on your own, that’s often where the trouble starts: a fingering that doesn’t work, a tie you didn’t notice, a shift that comes sooner than you expected.

So each piece comes in three parts:

• Introduction: how the piece is put together and what to practice first.
• Score with Commentary: my teaching notes written into the score, marking the places where students tend to stumble before you get there.
• Clean Score: the same music with fingering only, to play from once you know it.

  What’s included

• A PDF book with all five pieces: First Light, Rising Wind, High Sun, Golden Hour, and Starlight
• An introduction, a score with commentary, and a clean score for each piece
• Audio and video recordings of each piece
• Immediate access after purchase

Who it’s for

For late-beginner to early-intermediate pianists. If you can read both clefs and play hands together, you’re ready. These pieces are ideal if you’re finishing Simple & Beautiful Piano for Adult Beginners, or if you’re at a similar level.

A note on interpretation

The scores have no dynamic or tempo markings. How loud, how soft, how fast: those choices are yours. The recordings show one interpretation, not the right answer.

Questions

Do I need to have taken Simple & Beautiful Piano? No. These pieces stand on their own. If you’ve finished the course, you’ll be well prepared for them.

What do I need to play them? A piano or keyboard with a sustain pedal. All five pieces use it.

Can I print the book? Yes. The PDF is formatted for standard letter-size paper.

How do I get the files? Right after purchase, everything is in your Live Love Piano library, ready to download.
