MUSINGS ON LIFE

AND EXPERT ADVICE ON PIANO

A Special Lady in My Life

Jan 31, 2025

*This is a reposting of a recent newsletter.

At the beginning of January, my dear mother—77 years young—began her piano journey with Simple & Beautiful Piano for Beginners.

She had been asking (okay, begging) to take my course for months. But I had my doubts.

"Mom, how are you going to do my course? You have trouble with your eyesight. You can’t even watch TV for that long."

"And I speak English in the videos—you won’t even understand what I’m saying!"

Still, she was determined. So before I set her up, I had her do a test run in front of me. I watched as she followed along with the videos, taking in the lessons and applying them at the piano.

She passed my test!

So, I gave her a digital keyboard and full access to my course—at a very special full-family discount.

Of course, she didn’t exactly follow my recommended approach. Instead of starting from the beginning, she dove straight into Module 2, learning the pieces first.

And you know what? She’s loving it. She tells me she feels happy, that she understands the process, and that she knows how to improve (granted, she also has direct access to me whenever she wants).

My father’s take on all of this?

"I guess Kristina is a good piano teacher."

LOL! It's official. I'm a good piano teacher. My dad approves!

My mother was the one who started me on piano lessons all those years ago. She’s seen how music has shaped my life. And now, for the first time, she’s on her own journey.

Everyone’s journey is unique. It’s personal. It happens at its own time and pace.

Wherever you are, whenever you're ready—I hope your journey is fulfilling, joyful, and truly yours.
